Rémi Benard

Rémi was born in Troyes, France where he started dancing since he was 17. At the age of 18, he continued his studies at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse [C.N.S.M.D.] of Lyon, and then a Jazz training during two years at the Centre d'études supérieures Musique et Danse [C.E.S.M.D]. of Poitiers, both in France. After he graduated in 2008, he joined the Ballet Junior of Geneva [Switzerland] for three years under the direction of Sean Wood and Patrice Delay. He danced in projects by Hofesh Shechter, Alexander Ekman, Stijn Celis, Andonis Foniadakis, Itzik Galili, Thierry Malandain, Patrick Delcroix, Ken Ossola. Subsequently, he joined forces with the ALIAS Cie in Geneva under the direction of Guilherme Botelho for one year, where he embodied the role of Romeo in the production of "Romeo and Juliette". He also took part in the international tour of the piece "Sideways Rain". Rémi is part of the dance theater at the Staatstheater of Kassel with the start of season 2011/2012.

Brea Cali

Brea Cali, originally from Pennsylvania, USA, graduated from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in 2001. Her performance credits include Alban Elved Dance Company, Sandra Organ Dance Company, Houston Grand Opera, Theater Under the Stars, Eisenhower Dance Ensemble, Michigan Opera Theatre, johannes wieland and Armitage Gone! Dance under the direction of Karole Armitage. Ms. Cali was featured in a 2008 'Dance Magazine' article by Victoria Looseleaf entitled, 'Deaf Dancers Speak.' She has also taught throughout the United States and in Germany and was an adjunct member of the ballet faculty of Oakland University in Rochester Hills, MI. In addition, she has held the position of Administrative Assistant for Armitage Gone! Dance and General Manager for johannes wieland, both New York City based dance companies. Ms. Cali founded BREA CALI and collaborated on her first film in 2006. Her collaborative work has since garnered international nominations and awards: Bronze Award from Dance Film's Association's 48 Hour Challenge [2009], T-junction Audience Award from the T-junction International Video Dance Biennale [2010] and a nomination for the Golden Herkules Prize from the Kassel Documentary and Video Festival [2010]. Ms. Cali has been a member of the Staatstheater Kassel Dance Company since 2007.

Kristin Clotfelter

Kristin Clotfelter is from Dayton, Ohio where she studied dance with the South Dayton Dance Theatre. She graduated magna cum laude with honors in dance and a minor in visual arts from the Ailey/Fordham BFA program in New York City. Kristin has performed with the Metropolitan Opera Ballet, Miro Dance Theatre in Philadelphia, and is a founding member of Yaa Samar! Dance Theatre in New York. She spent five months in Germany dancing with the Staatstheater Kassel Tanztheater under the direction of Johannes Wieland, and is delighted to continue making work with him in New York.

Giacomo Corvaia

Giacomo Corvaia was born in Italy. He started his professional dance training at the 'Istituto Addestramento Lavoratori dello Spettacolo' [Training Institute for Actors and Dancers] in Rome before he devoted himself to study at the Scenario Pubblico in Sicily. There he trained with Mauro Bigonzetti, among other teachers. In 2007 he got chosen for D.A.N.C.E [Dance Apprentice Network across Europe], where he danced in choreographies from William Forsythe, Wayne McGregor, Frédéric Flamand and Angelin Preljocaj. He received a scholarship for the famous Palucca Schule Dresden from the Pierino Ambrosoli Foundation for the year 2008-2009. In 2009 he successfully graduated with the D.A.N.C.E diploma from the Palucca Schule Dresden. He presented his choreographies in Dresden, Parma and Aix-en-Provence.

Laja Field

Laja Field fostered a love of dance at a young age growing up in Salt Lake City, Utah. She will soon receive her BFA from the modern dance department at the University of Utah. Since attending the University she has performed in pieces by Martha Graham, Johannes Wieland, Abby Fiat, Eric Handman, and Juan Carlos Claudio. She has also had the privilege of performing in a work by David Dorfman at the Bates Dance Festival, traveling to Montreal Fringe Festival to perform with influx dance, and touring to BYU Idaho as a dancer with RawMoves. Laja is very excited to currently be dancing for Johannes Wieland at the Staatstheater of Kassel in Germany.

Beth Griffith

Beth Griffith, a Texas-born soprano, studied voice in Graz, Munich and Cologne and was a pupil of Hanni Mack-Cosack. Specializing in contemporary music, she has sung at festivals across Europe, the US and South Africa and appeared with such groups as London New Music, Musikfabrik, Ensemble 13, L'Art pour L'Art, Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra, Paris Nouvel Orchestra Philharmonique and New York City Operais VOX. Of special significance to Ms. Griffith has been her work with contemporary composers, among them Morton Feldman, Mauricio Kagel and Karlheinz Stockhausen. Apart from her career as a singer, she has performed as an actress in numerous production, was a guest artist at State Theater of Kassel in 2011 and johannes wieland in New York.

Jon Guymon

Jon Guymon was born in Utah, grew up in West Virginia, and studied dance at North Carolina School of the Arts. He has performed in New York City and abroad for bopi's black sheep, the Saeko Ichinohe Dance Company, Cornfield Dance, and others. He is excited to be entering his seventh season with johannes wieland.

Annamari Keskinen

The Finnish dancer Annamari Keskinen comes from Helsinki. She graduated from the ballet
school at the Finnish State Opera. During this time she worked together with the “Ballet des
Jeunes d’Europe” and “Europe Danse” She continued her studies in the course IT Dansa
in Barcelona, Spain. She has worked with several international choreographers such as
Jiri Kylian, Alexander Ekman, Uri Ivgi, Jo Stromgen and Gustavo Ramirez. She was part of
the “Bonachela Dance Company” and the “National Dance Company” in Wales. Annamari
Keskinen performed in various international productions developed by Rafael Bonachela,
Stephen Shorpshire, Stijn Celis, Andonis Foniadkis, Stephen Petronio, Mats Ek, Regis
Obadia amongst others. Her own choreographies were staged in Barcelona and Cardiff.
Annamari Keskinen is a member of the dance theatre at the Staatstheater Kassel since the
start of the season 2010/2011.

Davin King

Davin is from London, England and started dancing aged 17 at the BRIT School for performing arts. He completed his professional training at London Studio Centre and London Contemporary Dance School graduating in 2008. Since graduation he has worked as a freelance artist dancing for Henri Oguike Dance Company, National Dance Company Wales, the Balletboyz, Seeta Patel, Marc Brew Company and Dancelines at the Royal Opera House under the direction of Wayne McGregor. In February 2012 Davin joins Staatstheater Kassel as a guest dancer.

Wencke Kriemer de Matos

Born in Germany, Wencke Kriemer de Matos studied at the Institute of Theater and Music in Leipzig/Germany. At first she worked free-lancing with companies and choreographers in Switzerland, Luxemburg and Germany; such as Alias Company in Geneva, Company Unit.Control in Luxemburg and Company Toula Limnaios in Berlin. Later she joined the company of the city-theatre in Hildesheim/Germany, where she worked until 2007 under the artistic direction of Portugues choreographer Carlos Matos, also performing pieces of guest choreographers Jean Renshaw; Henrik Kaalund; Carlos Cortizo; Martina LaBonte and Benvindo Fonseca. Together with Carlos Matos she founded the dance company “Oficina dos Sentidos”; creating different crossover projects including dance, live music and multimedia; which were touring in Portugal, Germany, Switzerland and Denmark. In October 2007 she joined the Company Mancopy in Aarhus/Denmark and performed with them in several pieces of choreographer Jens Bjerregaard. One year later she became a member of the company at the city-theatre in St.Gallen/ Switzerland where she got to work with Philipp Egli; Stijn Celis and Nick Hobbs. In November 2009 she joined the dance theatre company in Darmstadt under the artistic direction of Taiwanese choreographer Mei Hong Lin.

Ryan Mason

The South-Californian dancer Ryan Mason graduated from the California Institute of the
Arts with a BFA in Dance and Choreography. He is a member of the Jose Limon Dance
Company and the Austerlund Dance Company. He was a guest dancer at Cornfield Dance
and at the Reidel Dance Theater. He worked with choreographers such as Colin Conner,
Jonathan Fredrickson, Rosanna Gamson, Mira Kingsley, Jim May and Donna Uchizono and
danced in choreographies of Kylian, Limon und Sokolow. He was part of the national and
international tours of the musical production of Jesus Christ Superstar, Peter Pan and Annie
Get Your Gun. His work got staged in RedCat Theater and in the Disney Symphony Hall
in Los Angeles. Ryan Mason is part of the dance theatre at the Staatstheater Kassel since
season 2009/2010.

René A. Huari Mateus

René was born in Chocontá, Colombia. He studied Chemistry at the Universidad Nacional in Bogotá and started to dance in the Company Danza Común, dancing for several choreographers such as Jeremy Nelson and Luis Viana. In 2003, he began his studies in Dance at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen, where he danced in pieces by Rodolpho Leoni, Malou Airaudo, Mark Sieczkarek and Urs Dietrich as well as creating his own work. In 2010, René completed his Posgraduate studies in Choreography and danced in a piece by Jerome Bell at the Folkwang. From 2008-2010, he was a guest dancer for the Tanzteather Wuppertal Pina Bausch and in 2011 a guest dancer for Neuer Tanz directed by V.A. Wölfl. René´s choreographic works have been invited to Festivals in Germany, Spain, Hungary and Serbia. Currently, René is a member of the Tanztheater ensemble at the Staatsteather Kassel under the direction of Johannes Wieland.

Eva Mohn

Eva Mohn is from Minneapolis, Minnesota. She learned about johannes wieland in 2005, during Johannes’ residency in Minneapolis. She spent July 2007 working with Johannes and his dancers at The Yard in Martha’s Vineyard creating "newyou". During her time in Minnesota, Eva danced with TU Dance Company, the SHE collective, and plays in a female rock quartet, Coach Said Not To. Eva became a member of the Staatstheater Kassel Tanztheater in Kassel, Germany as well as johannes wieland in New York.

Breanna O'Mara

Breanna O'Mara recently graduated from The Juilliard School, where she was recipient of the Joseph W. Polisi Award. While in New York, she had the pleasure of working with and performing works by Stijn Celis, Ohad Naharin, Alexander Ekman, Larry Keigwin, Mark Morris, and Paul Taylor. Breanna has performed in Deloitte Ignite 2011 at the Royal Opera House in London, Jack Ferver’s “Rumble Ghost” at P.S. 122, the Chicago Dancing Festival, and New York’s Fall for Dance, as well as in works by Marie Chouinard, Colleen Thomas and Austin McCormick. As a native of Detroit, Breanna founded the annual outreach program, Detroit Arts Immersion, sharing art with a community in need and one she loves. Breanna is excited to currently be working with Johannes Wieland at the Staatstheater Kassel.

Jaroslav Ondruš

Jaroslav Ondruš, 26 years old, was born in Poprad, Slovakia. He began dancing at the age of 8 in GY-TA dance group and at age 15 in the dance theatre Monada; both in Poprad. After graduating the Industry high school, Jaroslav moved to Prague. During his first year there he studied at the Technical Czech University, but then converted to the Academy of Arts, where he studied choreography until the third level. During his stay in Prague Jaroslav danced in „In-finito“ [by Verka Ondrašíková Prague], „Hidden Landscape“ by Thomas Steyaert [Ultima Vez], „100 wounded tears“ by Jozef Fruček/Linda Kapetanea [Rootlessroot company, Ultima Vez], „fish called Wanda" [new variations on a basic theme II]“ by Helen Weinziehler [Salzburg], „Habitat“ by Juraj Korec [Dresden], „See“ by Davide Sportelli [Berlin], „Men“ by Adela Laštovková Stodolová/Skutur [Prague]. Jaroslav joined the Staatstheater Kassel as a guest dancer in January 2012.

Victoria Perez Miranda

Victoria P. Miranda was born in Spain. She has studied at the Merce Cunningham Studio in New York under scholarship, at The Place [London] and graduated from CNDCL´ ESQUISSE [France]. Victoria worked as an assistant director and dancer with Carmen Werner Provisional Danza for eight years. In the past few years she has performed as a freelancer with Arrieritos [flamenco company], Marco Cantalupo and Katarzyna Gdaniec, Rafaele Giovanola, Maura Morales, Eric Trotier, Phillipe Tallard, Patrick Le Doare, Ruses Project, among others. As a teacher, Victoria has taught in different venues in Europe and South America, including: Conservatory Superior Maria de Avila, Kassel State Theater, Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Bonn and many more. She has also performed her work in Europe and South America as a creator/choreographer. Currently Victoria is working with Johannes Wieland at the State Theater of Kassel.

Amandine Petit

Amandine Petit started dancing at the age of four, following ballet training in France. At the age of 18, she joined the private university Anton Bruckner in Austria, where she obtained a double bachelor in dance and in pedagogy in 2009, and a master in dance in 2011. In 2010 She was selected to participate in the dance program «Arsenale della danza» in Venise directed by Ismal Ivo. After working two years for the Compagnie Off Verticality in Austria, she followed her dance career by being involved in diverse freelance projects in Europe, including areal dance, hip-hop dance or dance theater. She worked with choreographers such as: Johannes Randolf, Yoshiko Waki, Ismael Ivo, Robert Poole, and Rose Breuss. At the moment she is participating in the new work of Johannes Wieland.

Evangelos Poulinas

Evangelos Poulinas holds an MFA in dance from the Tisch School of the Arts, New York University, a Diploma from the Athens State School of Dance and a Bachelor from the Physical Education Department, Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki. He has been credited scholarships from numerous prestigious foundations like: Alexandros S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation, New York University, Greek State Scholarship Foundation and DanceWEB Europe. Evangelos has performed in works by Johannes Wieland, Katarzyna Gdaniec and Marco Cantalupo, Marcel Leemann, Constanza Macras, Konstandinos Rigos, Nigel Charnock, Jasmin Vardimon, Wim Vandekeybus among others and created his own works in the US and Europe. As a teacher he has taught contemporary technique and partnering in Germany, Switzerland, Greece, U.S.A. and Sweden.

Laura Ramos Santana

Laura Ramos, born in Spain [Gran Canaria] completed her dance studies at the Professional Dance Conservatory Real Madrid. First, she spent two years in the Cia. Trasdanza, e.g. together with Olga Cobos, Chevy Muraday, Pedro Berdayes, Carmen Werner, Cesc Gelaberg, Patrick de Bana and Itzick Galili. Due to a grant from the Spanish Ministry of Culture, she could complete her dance skills in Amsterdam, and participated there as a freelancer for various projects. From 2008 to 2009 she was at the Theater St. Gallen / Switzerland collaborating with Philip Egli, Rock Celis, Nick Hobbs, Eva Karczag. 2009 to 2010 she worked with Helen Berthelius, Iker Gomez, Tino Fernandez, Juliana Reyes y Haim Adri in the Spanish TDLAB. Since the season 2010/11 Laura Ramos is working with Johannes Wieland at the State Theater of Kassel.

Maasa Sakano

Born in Japan, Maasa Sakano was trained by Rieko Miyaki and from 1996-2002 ,she trained with the National Theater Ballet School in Melbourne, Australia. From 2002-2004, she was a freelance dancer based in Berlin. Maasa worked with choreographers such as Bettine Owczarek, Bianca Martin, Nora Schott, and Elly Fujita. From 2008-2011, Maasa was part of the dance theatre ensemble at the Staatstheater Darmstadt where she worked with MeiHong Lin, Johann Kresnik, Christina Comtesse as well as Jochen Ulrich.

Lillian Stillwell

Lillian Stillwell was born in the USA. She received her classical ballet training from Bonnie Mathis and learned contemporary dance at the University of Minnesota. She worked with Emily Johnson, Shapiro & Smith, Alexandra Beller, Gerald Casel, Mark Jarecke, Scott Rink, Roseanne Spradlin and Pam Tanowitz in Minneapolis and New York City, where she also worked as a yoga teacher. Starting from 2005, Lillian dances under the direction of Johannes Wieland in his company in New York and then in Kassel. She also works for him as an assistant choreographer and taught his production of “corrosion” to Zenon Dance Company. Lillian is part of the dance ensemble at Staatstheater Kassel since season 2007/2008. In Kassel, she choreographed for the opera and created her own dance pieces.

Léa Tirabasso

Léa Tirabasso is from North-East France, she originally trained in Lyon before moving to London in 2008. She graduated from “The Place”, London Contemporary Dance School in 2009 with a Certificate of Higher Education. As a freelance dancer, she worked with José Vidal & Company, Ei Arakawa, Jean-Guillaume Weis-Dance Theater Luxembourg and Seven Sisters Group. She also presented her own work in Lyon, London, Oxford and Luxembourg. In parallel with dancing, Léa holds a BA in Modern Literature and Art History from the University Lyon II, and she regularly writes and collaborates with Boxon, a French contemporary poetry review. Starting with the beginning of the season 2011/2012 she is a member of the dance theater ensemble at the Staatstheater Kassel.

Viktor Usov

Ukrainian-born Viktor Usov began his dance training in Portland when he was 13. He was taught by the Jefferson dancers and successfully received his Bachelor of Arts at the Juilliard School New York. He collaborated with choreographers such as Jose Limon, Paul Taylor, Jerome Robbins and Johannes Wieland as well as Aszure Barton, Donald McKayle, Sarah Slipper, James Canfield, Lucas Crandall and Wen Wei Wang.

Isadora Wolfe

Isadora Wolfe is from Lowell, Massachusetts. After training with the Boston Ballet, she graduated from NYU with the JS Seidman Award. She has performed nationally and internationally with choreographers such as Gerald Casel, Martha Clarke, Mark Dendy, Fiona Marcotty, Neta Pulvermacher, Colleen Thomas and Bill Young, among others, and in 2007 was a guest artist with the Staatstheater Kassel in Germany. She is very proud to be a founding member of johannes wieland, and grateful to Johannes for continuing to create, challenge and inspire.

Stella Zannou

Stella Zannou studied dance and choreography at London College of Dance, London Studio Centre, the American college of Greece (BA) and the Greek state school of Dance. As a dancer, Stella has collaborated with Maya Lipsker, Clint Lutes, Walter Bickmann, Richard Siegal, Nana Vahla, M.Klien, Yannis Antoniou and Kunst – stoff, Editta Braun, Thomas Mettler, Apostolia Papadamaki and Xaris Mandafounis. In 2006 she founded Smack Dance Company, in Athens. The company has been invited to perform at festivals such as the 5th and 6th Athens International Dance Festival, “Tanzwelten 2009” and ‘No Ballet Festival’. She is currently also working as a teacher of contemporary dance and is based in Berlin and Athens.

Jorys Zegarac

Jorys is from Mulhouse, France. He started dancing at the age of 16. At 19 he joined the Cannes Jeune Ballet at the Rosella Hightower's school for 2 years. After this short training, he danced 6 months for the Junior Ballet de Genève [Switzerland] before getting his first professional contract with the Ballet Preljocaj in France. He also performed for diffenrent companies and choreographers as Andonis Foniadakis, Guilherme Botelho [Cie Alias], Eliezer Dibritto [Cie DiBritto], Eugénie Andrin for a short Opera or Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui for a small performance in a movie. He joined the Staatstheater of Kassel in February 2012 for two creations named "bilderfluten" and "Orpheus".
